We raise Cornish Cross meat chickens and Broad-Breasted White turkeys, rotationally grazed out on pasture using electric poultry net fencing. This gives the birds plenty of space to forage for grass, clover, and insects. We also supplement their diet with 100% organic grain from Green Mountain Feed Company. Due to our birds' diverse diet, fresh air and exercise, and clean living conditions, our birds need no medications. The result of their healthy lifestyle is a cleaner and more delicious poultry product than anything you can find in the supermarket!
We start the year off raising a batch of chickens that will be ready for on-farm pickup mid-summer. That leaves us just enough time to use the same infrastructure to get our batch of turkeys finished and in the freezer right before the holidays. Our goal is to get our turkeys between 14 and 20 pounds by mid-October. We have found that with pasture-raised turkeys, it's better for the birds and the meat if we butcher and freeze them in October while there is still good green grass for them to eat, rather than forcing them to spend November in less optimal conditions inside a barn.
